Provision of support and management services for the organization of a challenge on leveraging Big Data for Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Prevention

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that is responsible for issues that concern information and communication technologies. It is the oldest among all the 15 specialised agencies of UN.

The ITU coordinates the shared global use of the radio spectrum, promotes international cooperation in assigning satellite orbits, works to improve telecommunication infrastructure in the developing world, and assists in the development and coordination of worldwide technical standards. The ITU is active in areas including broadband Internet, latest-generation wireless technologies, aeronautical and maritime navigation, radio astronomy, satellite-based meteorology, convergence in fixed-mobile phone, Internet access, data, voice, TV broadcasting, and next-generation networks. The agency also organizes worldwide and regional exhibitions and forums, such as ITU Telecom World, bringing together representatives of government and the telecommunications and ICT industry to exchange ideas, knowledge and technology.

ITU and UNESCO in collaboration with WHO Egypt and potentially other partners, are organizing a Challenge on Big Data for Non-Communicable Diseases on the occasion of World Diabetes Day on the 14th of November 2019. The main objective of the Challenge is to provide a platform for innovators to demonstrate solutions addressing pre-defined problem statements relevant to utilizing Big Data to address Non-Communicable Diseases.
