Item Description:
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (the “Bank” or “EBRD” ) is an international financial institution. The Bank was founded in 1991 to foster the transition towards open market economies and promote private and entrepreneurial initiatives in Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltic States and the Commonwealth of Independent States. It has since played a historic role and gained unique expertise in fostering change in the region – and beyond – , investing more than EUR130bn in total of over 5,200 projects.
The Bank is owned by 67 countries, as well as the European Union and the European Investment Bank. Further information about the Bank’s role and activities can be found on the Bank’s website: http://www.ebrd.com.
Purpose of this Request for Information
The purpose of this Request for Information (the “RFI” ) is to gather information from the market to assist the Bank in its preparations to tender for a supplier (the “Supplier” ) to provide test tooling (the “Services” ) that will support its IT Department.
Background
The Bank has little automated functional testing being carried out across the legacy/BAU suite of applications. Our ‘Journey to the Cloud’ (J2C) based applications have test automation ‘baked in’ as they follow ‘Agile’ principles, solely building web based services that can easily be automated using open-source tools. Our legacy/BAU applications however, are a mixture of Windows client, *nix, web service and web applications and have historically been tested manually.
Automated testing allows for reduced execution time, increased test coverage, standardised reporting and allows for the testing of areas that are traditionally difficult to carry out manually.
The Bank has a requirement to build and maintain our applications be they J2C based or legacy/BAU in an ‘Agile’ manner and so functional test automation is the norm and not the exception. Because our estate is not just web service or web application based, the open-source standard toolsets will not work so a vendor based toolset that can cover all our application types and technologies is required.
Additionally, EBRD would like to leverage automation test assets to drive non-functional testing in order to reduce duplication of effort and maintenance as much as possible.
Finally, EBRD would like to manage all Exploratory tests through a common framework, and leverage test assets that may be produced during the exploratory testing activities to drive test automation script identification and development.
