Provision of digital publishing, remediation, and publishing development services

The United Nations is seeking Expression of Interest for the provision of digital publishing, remediation, and development services that are high quality, efficient, and cost-effective for a wide range of publications, including monographs, book series, periodicals, working papers, journals, etc. in the six official UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) according to agreed-upon criteria.

The UN seeks to establish contract for an initial term of three (3) years, with the option to extend for two additional 1-year periods

The relevant vendor requirements:
I. Experience
At least five years of experience in providing the services described below.
II. Languages
Ability to provide the services described below for publications written in the six official UN languages.
III. Digital publishing services

Digital asset conversion: The ability to convert assets into digital file formats including but not limited to: XML, HTML5, print and application files, Web PDF, ePub, and MOBI.

Digital asset and metadata optimization: The ability to provide optimization services including but not limited to: bookmarking, metadata extraction, and PDF chapterization (eg: tagging relevant metadata; creation of chapter abstracts, etc)

Audiobook services: The ability to convert digital publications into audiobooks that can be distributed through all commercial channels: Retail (Apple, Google); Subscription (Audible, Storytel, Libro.fm, Kobo); Library lend (Overdrive); Pay Per Use (Hoopla) including conversion into all required file formats, with all standard audiobook features, and with accompanying metadata.

Remediation Services: The ability to convert content into formats that comply with federal and international accessibility regulations including transforming existing content into accessible formats such as accessible EPUB, PDF, Word, and PPT. The ability to provide accessible publishing products, tools and features including but not limited to closed captioning, audio transcription, and Braille.

Editorial Publishing Technology: The ability to provide a range of editorial publishing tools, platforms, and/or services including online editorial tools, content enrichment services, and composition services for publications tailored to different audiences (children to adults).

Publishing Development Services: The ability to provide publishing enhancement services on existing multilingual content, content management services to streamline user and business needs as well as search engine optimization services to increase the visibility and discoverability of UN publications.

Note: Full details of requirements will be provided with the solicitation documents. Capacities, dimensions, and quantities cited above are approximate and subject to change.

Responding to this Request

1. Interested firms must complete the following Vendor Response Form and return it to the attention of the officer named below no later than 13 September 2019.

2. Vendor Response Forms must be completed in full. The UN reserves the right to reject Expressions of Interest documents that are incomplete, or are received after the stated deadline.
