Provision of Vehicle Batteries to the UN Missions

The UNPD Global Procurement Support Section (GPSS), hereby invites qualified vendors to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) for the provision of “maintenance-free” 12 volt vehicle batteries.

This requirement supports 7 UN clients missions that currently deploys a fleet of approximately 9000 vehicles of various types in more than 20 mission locations of which some are in Abyei, Mogadishu, Entebbe, Kinshasa, Goma, Juba, El Fasher, Bamako, Gao, and Bangui all in the East African Region and CAR. The vehicles, therefore, should be fitted with batteries that allow them to operate in extreme conditions, especially equatorial, desert, and at high altitudes, with very limited infrastructure.

It is estimated that 7300 batteries per annum may be required. The batteries are for passenger vehicles, light truck fleet, heavy trucks with some ‘specialists’ requirement in the equipment. The UN seeks to standardize technical specifications of the batteries supplied to gain overall cost savings that represent best value for money whilst contributing to the safety of personnel ferried by the vehicles.

The duration of the envisaged contract(s) is for an initial contract duration of three (3) years, with an option at the UN’s sole discretion to extend the contract for additional two (2) one-year periods (1+1). Upon award of contract, UN Missions will order batteries on an “as-and-when-required” basis.
