Item Description:
The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) or Banque Africaine de Développement (BAD) is a multilateral development finance institution. The AfDB was founded in 1964 and comprises three entities: The African Development Bank, the African Development Fund and the Nigeria Trust Fund. The AfDB’s mission is to fight poverty and improve living conditions on the continent through promoting the investment of public and private capital in projects and programs that are likely to contribute to the economic and social development of the region. The AfDB is a financial provider to African governments and private companies investing in the regional member countries (RMC).
Request for Expressions of interest
The Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) with support from the AfDB has developed, “The Zambia Renewable Energy Financing Framework” Programme, co-financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), to catalyse private investment for small-scale Renewable Energy (RE) projects. These projects are expected to accelerate the achievement of GRZ’s electricity generation targets and the diversification of its energy mix. This will essentially reduce the country’s reliance on hydro power and improve energy security.
The AfDB-GCF framework includes a Technical Assistance (TA) Project with the aim of assisting the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) and the Ministry of Energy (MoE) and other public sector institutions to create an enabling environment for private investments in the mini- grid and off-grid sectors.
In light of the above, REA is calling for qualified consulting firms for the consultancy for the preparation of Mini-grid and Off-grid projects by undertaking of feasibility studies and designing of regulations.
The main objective of this consultancy will be to undertake feasibility studies for potential rural electrification mini-grid and off-grid projects, prepare mini grid and off grid project packages and design regulations within the rural electrification space.
