    Consultant (m/f) in Afghanistan

    Enhancing partnerships to fight hunger and poverty: non-violent communication workshop for Welthungerhilfe Afghanistan and Welthungerhilfe Partner Organisations

    As part of its 2019 partnership strategy objectives, aligned with its accountability strategy, Welthungerhilfe Afghanistan seeks to enhance the capacities of its key staff in interacting and communicating with partner organisations and targeted communities. WHH has a strategic interest and commitment to developing and strengthening current partnerships with local organisations, and has determined that effective communication underpins and supports this. WHH also foresees that such communication will support WHH and its partners in communicating more effectively with the communities who are targeted under their combined development and humanitarian programming.

    To this end, WHH Afghanistan seeks to organise comprehensive introductory multi-day training on non violent communication (NVC) for key WHH Afghanistan staff and key staff of partner organisations. The total number of participants will be approximately be approximately 30.

    Methodology:

    The Consultant is responsible for suggesting an appropriate training methodology, as well as presenting and discussing with key staff of WHH Afghanistan’s Country Office the specific training plan / concept in alignment with the overall foreseen training outcome of enhancing the capacities of its key staff in interacting and communicating with partner organisations and targeted communities.

    Deliverables:

    • Draft training concept / plan prior to training, to be presented and discussed through a consultative session with key staff of WHH Afghanistan Country Office;
    • Comprehensive introductory multi-day training for key WHH Afghanistan staff (from WHH Afghanistan’s 4 regional offices and country office) and key staff of WHH Afghanistan partner organisations, to be conducted in Kabul, Afghanistan;
    • Post training debriefing presentation to key staff of WHH Afghanistan Country Office.
    • Prepared and conducted in English only;
    • Prepared in coordination with and actively seeking the input of key staff of WHH Afghanistan Country Office.

    The foreseen NVC training should be introductory yet sufficiently comprehensive allowing participants walk away from the training feeling empowered, capacitated and more knowledgeable about how to communicate with partners and communities based on connection and understanding. The training should be conducted in English but allow for the effective participation of participants with limited English speaking skills – to the extent possible, taking into consideration the need to provide a comprehensive training. Furthermore, the training must effectively take into account and cater to the needs of a largely Afghan audience who will contribute unique styles and norms of communication.

    Time Frame:

    • Expected start date: April / May 2019;
    • End date: April / May 2019;
    • Working days: TBD by the Consultant (indicative 3 to 4 days of training, plus required preparation days);
    • Delivery of debriefing session / presentation: within 10 days of training delivery. Your qualifications will include:
    • Willing to travel to and stay in Kabul, Afghanistan, for the duration of delivering the training;
    • An experienced NVC trainer with extensive international experience, including extensive experience delivering NVC trainings to non-Western participants;
    • Fluent in English.
