Item Description:
The World Health Organization (WHO) is a public international organization, consisting of 194 Member States, and a Specialized Agency of the United Nations with the mandate to act as the directing and coordinating authority on international health work. As such, WHO is dependent on the budgetary and extra-budgetary contributions it receives for the implementation of its activities. Bidders are, therefore, requested to propose the best and most cost-effective solution to meet WHO requirements, while ensuring a high level of service.
Clim- HEALTH Africa Network was established in 2013 with involvement of 14 founding member institutions, as a multi-stakeholder initiative bringing together Pan-African technical institutes and international partners from developing countries, with aim of strengthening the public health resilience of African countries and communities to climate change and weather variability. Since its establishment Clim-Health Africa provides scientific leadership, capacity building, research, and policy support to help and inform health sector across Africa move from the current reactive to a proactive mode of public health adaptation.to climate change. Furthermore, Clim-Health Africa paving the road for user-interface mechanism for engaging, guiding, and setting standards for the health community to access and use climate services in Africa.
Media and communications activities will contribute toward this overarching goal, through heightening awareness and knowledge among the network members institutions, partners and Member States. Furthermore, generate best practice lessons from countries currently mainstreamed climate change to their health programmes and implementing activities which can help to facilitate scaling up among the member states.
Specific communications objectives include:
- Maximize the impact of AFRO work on climate change and health, Clim- HEALTH Africa Network work and secure positive communication coverage including updating the web site to avail the up-to-date work of WHO and the network on climate change and health;
- Raise awareness among the health community, researchers and decision makers on impact of weather variability and climate change on health; and help in developing proactive health adaption;
- Share successes and lessons learned from implementation of interventions addressing impact of weather variability and climate change on health in African countries and beyond in order to promote knowledge sharing and information exchange;
- Develop and disseminate information, and outreach materials including Clim- HEALTH Africa Network work website and news letter.
