Item Description:
IFAD finances many projects that develop smallholder value chains (VCs). IFAD is now looking at how to make these value chains also work to improve nutrition, principally through improvement in diet quality. Essentially, this means developing value chains for nutritious foods (crops, livestock or small animals, or fish) in ways that contribute to raising incomes of project beneficiaries (smallholder farmers), but that also improve their nutrition.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) seeks a reputable consulting firm/consortium to undertake a study, Nutrition Assessment and Commodity Selection, that covers two areas: an assessment of the nutritional situation in project communities; a selection of potential commodities for development of value chains, based on nutrition needs as well as market potential and for income generation.
The first activity of the overall project was to develop a framework for understanding nutrition-sensitive value chains.
The required consultancy will focus on the work needed to support step 2, nutrition-sensitive value chain analyses. The work under this consultancy will be done in support of the CASP project in Nigeria. CASP, the Climate Change and Agribusiness Support Program, became operational in 2016.
