    Item Description:

    The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) or Banque Africaine de Développement (BAD) is a multilateral development finance institution. The AfDB was founded in 1964 and comprises three entities: The African Development Bank, the African Development Fund and the Nigeria Trust Fund. The AfDB’s mission is to fight poverty and improve living conditions on the continent through promoting the investment of public and private capital in projects and programs that are likely to contribute to the economic and social development of the region. The AfDB is a financial provider to African governments and private companies investing in the regional member countries (RMC).

    Invitation for Prequalification

    The Government of Rwanda has received financing from the African Development Bank (ADB) toward the cost of the Muvumba Multipurpose Water Resources Development Program and intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under the contract for the Construction of Muvumba Multipurpose Dam and Power Plant Installation.

    The Rwanda Water Resources Board intends to prequalify contractors for the Construction of Muvumba Multipurpose Dam and Power Plant Installation (P000066/2021/2022/RWB). The assignment comprises construction of a high dam including spillway, intake tower, diversion/ outlet culvert, upstream cofferdam and installation of a hydropower plant. The dam is to be constructed on the Muvumba River 12km upstream of Nyagatare town in Nyagatare District; North-Eastern part of Rwanda.

    The dam will have a height of 39m and storage capacity of 55million m . The capacity of

    hydropower to be installed is 1MW (500KWx2) and is expected to generate 6.94 GWh annually. The Dam is envisaged to supply water for domestic use, irrigation and livestock.

    It is expected that the Request for Bids from the Prequalified bidders will be made in September 2022.

    Prequalification will be conducted through the procedures as specified in the African Development Bank’s Procurement Policy for Bank Group Funded Operations, dated October 2015 (“Procurement Framework”), and is open to all eligible Applicants as defined in the Procurement Framework.
