Modernization of Babatag Main Canal and Reconstruction of Structures on Babatag Canal

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) was conceived in the early 1960s as a financial institution that would be Asian in character and foster economic growth and cooperation in one of the poorest regions in the world.

ADB assists its members, and partners, by providing loans, technical assistance, grants, and equity investments to promote social and economic development.

The Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan has applied for financing from the ADB toward the cost of Climate Adaptive Water Resources Management in the Aral Sea Basin Sector Project. Part of this financing will be used for payments under the contract named above. Bidding is open to all Bidders from eligible source countries of ADB.

The Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan (“the Employer”) invites sealed bids from eligible Bidders for the Modernization of Babatag Main Canal and Reconstruction of Structures on Babatag Canal (“the works”).

Description of works:

1. Rehabilitation of hydraulic structures on Babatag main canal including:
   1. Two (2) cross regulators:
      • rehabilitation of the existing structure at PK91+42, with discharge capacity Q = 30 m3/sec;
      • construction of new structure at PK260+50, with discharge capacity Q=20 m3/sec.
   2. Rehabilitation of the existing 43 outlet structures with discharge capacities ranging from 0.1 m3/sec to 2.0 m3/sec;
   3. Construction of 43 new hydrometric posts
   4. Construction of 43 new gauging bridges
   5. Rehabilitation of six (6) mudflow diversion structures at PK49+20, PK53+00, PK55+10, PK60 + 90, PK63+60 and PK81+40;
   6. Rehabilitation of one (1) spill structure at PK420+62, with capacity Q = 20 m3 /sec;
   7. Rehabilitation of one (1) pipe tube drop structureat PK412+45, with capacity Q=20 m3/sec;
   8. Rehabilitation of five (5) automobile road bridges at PK58+81, PK176+23, PK261+46, PK299+41 and PK388+70).
2. Re-sectioning and concrete lining of Babatag canal, including:

• • cutting off the vegetation layer;
  • excavation of the canal section (re-sectioning);
  • excavation of berms;
  • high-quality embankment;
  • concrete lining of the canal:
    • A new concrete lining is required on unlined sections of the canal at reaches PK34+00 to PK91+42 and from PK260+50 to PK420+62 (21.75 km in total) with a concrete class B15, F150, M200, prepared on sulfate- resistant cement, with thickness t = 0.15 m., reinforced with ASK Ø7 mm reinforcement mesh and with underlying geo-composite (geotextile -200 g/m2, geomembrane t = 1.0 mm)
