Technical Assistance Programme to Support lending Operations to the Women’s Entrepreneurship Development Project in Ethiopia

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the European Union’s bank, set up in 1958 by the Treaty of Rome and now existing under the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. The EIB’s shareholders are the 28 EU Member States. Whilst EIB’s main activities are focused on Europe, it has been an active development finance partner in the African, Caribbean and Pacific Countries (ACPs) and in the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs) since 1963 and 1968 respectively. The EIB supports the EU’s external and development policies.

Objective of this tender

The overall objective of this technical assistance operation is to promote responsible financial inclusion, more specifically access to medium and long-term financial services for women owned MSMEs in Ethiopia, so as to reduce poverty and encourage entrepreneurship in the country. The programme seeks to do this by improving the quality and quantity of financial services on offer to the final beneficiaries as a way to support their income generating activities and contribute towards supporting economic development in Ethiopia. The TA operation is related to a European Investment Bank senior loan.
