    VERIFICATION EXERCISE OF THE INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE MALNUTRITION (IMAM) PROGRAMME IN SIERRA LEONE

    Major Tasks to be accomplished:

    a) Assessment of main requisites for the effective delivery of IMAM programme 

    • Presence of adequate number trained staff on IMAM protocol and examine issues related to staff capacity
    • Availability of functioning anthropometric materials
    • Availability of sufficient number of therapeutic supplies
    • Designation of conducive area for: storage of therapeutic supplies, appetite testing, preparation of therapeutic milk, and IPF care
    • Existence of community awareness activities and value placed on nutrition services
    • Regularity of nutrition screenings and referral at the community level
    • Opportunity costs to households when accessing nutrition services

    b) Assessment of supply chain in relation to adherence to the treatment protocol.

    • Check storage conditions and management of therapeutic supplies (review of stock cards and registers)
    • Average lead time between distributions of the supplies from the District Medical stores to the OTP/IPF facilities
    • Dispensing of RUTF and routine medication in the OTP facilities
    • Preparation and administration of therapeutic milk, RUTF and drugs for treatment in the IPF facilities

    c) Assessment of quality of services delivered by trained staff in key areas of the IMAM programmeme in relation to the IMAM protocol.

    • Admission of SAM patients
    • Internal transfer
    • Failure to respond
    • Discharge of SAM patients (cured, death, defaulter, non-responder, and non-recovered)
    • Reporting
