Provision of Forwarding services

Item Description:

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) wishes to enhance its in-country logistics system, in response to the substantial volumes of supplies that are required to support existing development programmes as well as new programme initiatives.  In particular, UNICEF expects to continue providing support to the South Africa Government in its efforts to ensure provision of services required under the National programmes.  As part of this partnership, UNICEF lends its expertise to support the programme in the procurement and distribution of some of the supplies required, such as antiretroviral medicines, rapid diagnostic test kits, laboratory equipment or therapeutic food nutritional, Education supplies, etc.

In addition to this project, UNICEF procures internationally a wide range of other items for its own programmes; for all these supplies, UNICEF requires capable and reliable partners to ensure timely delivery of goods when and where they are needed.

Customs clearance, temporary storage of good spending distribution, pre-positioning/storage of emergency supplies for emergency preparedness and transportation of the supplies to regional and sub-regional points of delivery (potentially to over 450 health centres) and to emergency sites in South Africa and BNLS countries require careful and detailed planning/execution combined with solid and effective distribution monitoring systems.  UNICEF will therefore work in close partnership with the selected Contractor(s) to ensure that all logistics activities are carried out in an effective and efficient manner.
