    Item Description:

Vodafone Fiji is a leading mobile telecom operator in Fiji with a majority of the market share. To further enhance its customer offering Vodafone Fiji launched a mobile money offering in 2010 called Vodafone M-PAiSA.

Since its launch Vodafone M-PAiSA has added numerous payments values chains viz. bill payments, mobile top-ups, domestic and international remittances, merchant payments, student scholarship etc. over a period of time. However, in addition to this over the period of time with the background of success in operating a payments platform Vodafone Fiji has seen significant expansion of its digital payments and m-commerce business. A few of the examples are as illustrated below:

    • Vodafone Fiji is the sole operator of the country’s e-transport system. This is a 100% cashless system in which users can pay fares using an NFC card issued by Vodafone
    • Vodafone Fiji has deployed more than 1,000 POS machines and is in the process of deploying self-service cash deposit kiosks to act as ‘cash-in’ points for its mobile money and e-transport offering
    • The mobile operator has also overseen significant disbursements of G2P (Government to Person) payments for cyclone relief and other welfare programmes run by the Govt.
    • Additionally Vodafone Fiji is also replicating its mobile money success by advising and supporting sister/associated companies in their mobile money deployments for Samoa, Vanuatu and Kiribati (Vodafone Fiji is part of the ATH Group which runs mobile telecom operations through subsidiaries in these geographies)

This has resulted in Vodafone Fiji having a diverse multi-faceted payments business with different form factors, usage patterns and varied means of users interacting with this system.

Thus to better align its m-commerce offering Vodafone Fiji is in the process of structuring its Digital Payments Strategy to re-orient it towards providing a more consolidated and cohesive solution at the same time offering maximum value to the customers. With a majority of the market share and high levels of customer trust Vodafone Fiji is ideally positioned to provide customers a country-wide unified payments offering which they can use to access financial services with unparalleled ease.
